History

The Department of Statistics offers a wide range of programs designed to equip students with the analytical and quantitative skills necessary for today’s data-driven world. You are welcome to the Department of Statistics, University of Ilorin. The Department was created in the 1977/78 academic year out of Department of Mathematics with three academic staff. The first batch of students graduated in the 1979/80 academic year. From that time, the Department has been growing in terms of number and quality of academic staff as well as in the number and grades of the academic programmes. Our appreciations go to the management of the University of Ilorin for its continuous support and for providing conducive learning environment which enables the Department to grow. Presently, the Department consists of distinguished academics with expertise in various fields which are applied to a wide range of statistical data analysis and problems solving in various disciplines and human endeavours. These fields include Quality Control, Biostatistics, Biometrics, Design of Experiments, Multivariate/Big data Analysis and Data Science, Survival. Analysis, Micro-array and Genomics data analysis among others. Department of Statistics, University of Ilorin is committed to the University’s mission of teaching, learning, research and community development services. It is aimed at producing graduates that are well trained in various fields of statistics with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the area of data analysis, its advancements as well as achieving distinction in the field of Statistics with the main purpose of meeting national and international needs in the area of data analysis and its advancements.

The Department is committed to making it an envy of other sister Departments of Statistics in the country by continuously improving its educational environment to develop and produce graduates with strong academic backgrounds needed to achieve distinction in the field of Statistics and be a reference point to other institutions.
